Tumors Related With Foot and Ankle

ImageMost of the people are not aware with the Tumors of Foot and Ankle, as they are exceedingly rare. Ganglion Cyst followed by the Plantar Fibroma is the most common do to occur. Going in depth into these:

Ganglion cysts: Ganglion cysts is a tumor usually comes off a joint due to a defect in the lining of the tendon sheath.  It looks like a sac of liquid filled inside with a thick, sticky, clear, colorless, jellylike material. 70% occur in the people between the ages of 20-40. It most commonly occur on the back of the hand at the wrist joint but they can also develop on the palm side of the wrist.

Plantar Fibromas: overgrowth within a ligament in the arch of the foot called the plantar fascia. They occur on the bottom of the foot and are usually firm in nature. Systemic conditions such as epilepsy, alcoholism, liver cirrhosis, hypothyroidism and diabetes mellitus may have an increased incidence of plantar fibromas. It is best to not surgically treat these due to the fact unless a large section of plantar fascia is excised, they can come back worse than they were before they were removed.

When these issues have been occurred to any of them, in most cases a simple physical exam can differentiate these problems.
